Day 9 - 16th April - Ouarzazate Pitstop

Another hot one! (30c at least) We ate a hearty breakfast of bread/ jam/ cheese and ham, washed down with sweet white coffee. Our fellow travellers were packing and over the next hour moved on to where ever they were going. Peter tried in vain to get a trustworthy mechanic, it was increasingly becoming clear we had to do the work ourselves; fortunately Peter's garage was well stocked with bike tools and general workshop stuff. He had a listen to Lars's bike – nothing wrong with it (after the initial horror scenarios being painted), Mark's bike however did have problems; the bike's fuel system was stripped and cleaned from fuel pump to carburettors (it all looked OK) then the revelation. One of the HT leads (from the spark plugs) was broken. This was fixed and the bike reassembled (1 day). We turned the engine over, with a great deal of smoke it was running, the bike sounded the best it had in days, the smoke cleared and Mark was effectively riding a new bike, powerful and responsive. We all took the time to sort out niggly problems on all bikes (loose bolts/ panniers/ lights etc). After a beer, we wandered into the local area to see the women's handicraft market; quality stuff (not like the usual tat associated with the bigger cities). We returned and once again a feast awaited us, carefully prepared by Zineb, we talked over dinner for ages (Peter is rather opinionated on matters of immigration and his fellow Dutchmen - amongst other things!)  A lovely couple and most welcoming - a true godsend when it could have gone pear shaped.  Tomorrow we travel to the edge of the desert proper.
