Day 2, April 9th 2011

Arrived Bilboa 5.pm (earlier than we thought) weather fantastic, sun, sun, sun.

Rode south, following signs for Burgos (Madrid) like every other British 4x4/enduro vehicle. Mark's bike cutting out a bit, very frustrating for him. Stunning views coming over the mountains, the smell of the cedar quite strong, the countryside has all the hall marks of coming out of winter, many houses have the classic alpine roofs to shed the winter snows. The trees all exploding with green shoots, giving a wonderful mottled look as the vegetation changes from valleys to plains.

The Spanish clearly have their idiotic drivers as does any country, we witnessed some quite sporty manoeuvres bordering on the insane, truck dodging at 110km per hour. Came off the motorway at Burgos, not a classic Spanish town I think, quite a bit of road works/ development mixed in with dilapidation and truck stops. We liked it so much we rode around and around the centre for 45 minutes. I saw a set of traffic lights with a countdown in seconds 'til they changed to green, I bet the motorheads love that! Deciding to tear ourselves away from town we headed to the Aeroport with a view to finding a travel lodge type place. The aeroport didn't have a hotel or a plane or any passengers, lots of room to park the bikes though. On our return to the bright lights of Burgos, we lost Mark briefly (a bit of traffic/ roundabout trouble split the team) As fate would have it we found ourselves thrust together at a Repsol garage with an obliging Spaniard who directed us the inviting Hotel Versos in the town of Castenaras, where Cerveza will be consumed.
